Victory in Atlanta!!!

We finally got back in the winner’s circle. It feels awesome. I just wanted to drop a note to let everyone know. I’ll come back later and fill in all the details.

Thanks for all the support. It has been awesome. See everyone in St. Louis with another Wally!!!

Ready to race in Atlanta

On Saturday, we made two consistent runs in the warm conditions. I think this is the first time this year that track has been that warm, but the crew did a great job getting the Penhall/Young Life Pontiac GXP ready for action. We didn’t improve from the No. 5 position, but were satisfied that we got down the track with the new car.

That is a key to winning races, being able to make runs in different conditions and learn from them. We think we got the right information to make a run at the title on Sunday.

Atlanta is always a fun race because we get so many kids to come out and cheer for us. It just lifts the whole team.

Well I need to go prepare for the first round. I’ll be back after eliminations and update on how things went.

Welcome to Atlanta!

We are at the Southern Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia. We had a great group of Young Life youth from the Atlanta area on Thursday night. On Friday we qualified fifth in our new Penhall Pontiac GXP. The crew:Terry, Al, Josh and Jon, have all been working hard and their efforts are showing. We look forward to Saturday to see if we can continue to improve.

Thanks for your support and keep checking back.

Ready for race day

Today turned out to be a pretty consistent day. We had some problems on the first run, but made a good lap the second time down, but during both learned some more about this new Pontiac GXP. I feel good going into Sunday after closing qualifying with a 6.76.

Now my attention has to turn to getting to the finish line first four straight runs. That would be awesome to get our Young Life/Penhall Pontiac back in the winner’s circle. It has been a while. I appreciate all you fans and kids coming by and telling me good luck and that I’ll get a win soon. This is what racing is all about; doing it for the kids.

I get Jeg Coughlin, the reigning world champion, in the first round. The plus is I get lane choice, which could a big factor or none at all. It all depends on what the fuel cars do in front of us. I haven’t had the greatest luck against Jeg, but it is time to get back on the winning side against him. I just know I have to do everything right.

Hopefully, when I write tomorrow, it will be from the winner’s circle.

Debut of new Pontiac so far so good

Well we finally debuted our new Pontiac GXP at the Las Vegas event today, and the first few runs are showing some real promise. We have qualified in the provisional No. 7 position, which means we will be racing on Sunday. The car is making some good runs, but we have a lot of work to do to make it even better.

Las Vegas has not been one of my best tracks, but I hope bringing our new Penhall/Young Life Pontiac GXP to the event, and making a grand debut will change our luck.

Speaking of the car. It was built by Jerry Haas and has a different look from our previous ride. It still has Penhall on the side of the car, with the gray and red flipped. On the hood of the GXP is the Young Life logo. The cool part about the colors is it all done with vinyl, meaning the only paint is the white. My friends at Fineline Graphics in Denver, did an awesome job.

I hope we can continue moving forward on the two runs Saturday and learn even more about this car and make our way toward the top.

It is always great seeing all the Young Life kids and I hope to see you all when I come close to your area. I will blog again tomorrow.

Season kicks off with new website

Well here at Mike Edwards Motorsports we have finally come into the technology age. We’ve kicked off the website and are ready for the 2008 season.

The website will help keep all our fans locked into with what we are doing and hope that it gives each of you something you might be looking for.

The off-season has been busy. We have gotten the engine shop in North Carolina up and running, and it is slowly starting to show on the track. We finally made some laps at Las Vegas and found ourselves running with the pack, which is a good thing to start with. We are starting the year with the same car we ended 2007 with and hope that keeps us ahead of the game.

Well, it is time to hit the track in Pomona. Come back and we’ll add what is happening real soon.
